Hi! Here is my second homework with the book dummy. This was really very difficult for me, but interesting! For this exercise i had to look through hundrets of reference images…the main problem was, that i just could not get the right image on the paper as i had it in my imagination :) …also very often i was not sure, what i should omit or include into image…is it only the question of practice? How can i can keep balance between being enough informative and at the same time not too detailed? How to not overcomplicate the illustration? Thank you!

Hi! I am very sorry for the late reply! Suddenly i’ve got a project at my daily job with the very short deadlines, but as soon as i was ready with it, i went on with the homeworks. I have sketched a lot and reworked the characters: Ginger and Giles. Also i have studied the kitten’s anatomy and practiced the emotion expression. Hope it is look better now :)

Heather Rosas http://classes.designgarden.co/heather-rosas-2/ http://classes.designgarden.co/heather-rosas-2/#comments Fri, 08 Jan 2016 10:12:32 +0000 http://classes.designgarden.co/?p=10314 I really enjoyed the Illustrating Picture Books class with Denise and Sabina. The class has given me the confidence (after spending years at home, out of the workforce and taking care of my small children) to restart my career again and submit to publishers. The class gives you a very well organized plan for accomplishing this goal. If you follow the steps and complete all the exercises (there are fun mini-exercises added too!), work very hard, and listen to the feedback you will come out of this class with strong portfolio pieces and possibly even a book ready to submit to a publisher or self-publish yourself! The teachers are very knowledgable, kind and supportive, but they will give you honest feedback that you can learn from. The community of students is very supportive and helpful as well. I was sad when the class was over!

Judit Darvas http://classes.designgarden.co/judit-darvas/ http://classes.designgarden.co/judit-darvas/#comments Fri, 08 Jan 2016 10:12:16 +0000 http://classes.designgarden.co/?p=10306 It took me more than a year to gather enough courage and commitment to sign up to this class. I was afraid that my drawing skills would be insufficient, and that I would not be able to keep up with the assignments. Then finally I convinced myself to give it a try, and I am so very happy that I did. It turned out that if I really wanted to follow through with the whole class, my skills would be just fine, what more, Sabina convinced me that my drawings are quite good. I enjoyed the live materials from the first minute with just the right proportion of theory to practice. The additional resources, the suggested readings, online classes, books, blogs, tools are extremely useful, probably worth of quite a few years of research on the subject. The assignments were challenging, but fun, and the end result is a clip art set that I am very proud of. The feedback in writing and the live chat sessions with Sabina exceeded my expectations by far. She is very attentive and thoughtful, extremely specific on the work that you submit, and above all super encouraging. Thank you Sabina, I will be back for more!

I’m new in the illustration world and having taken this class was the best thing I have done this year for bringing my work to a higher level. Each lesson was fully packed with useful information and learning material. I have to admit that it was sometimes overwhelming. But the good thing about this: You learn to step out of your comfort zone to handle all that new information within a given time. With the constructive feedback from both, Denise and Sabina, you’re learning step by step on how creating a picture book – from sketches to finalization! Thank you Sabina and Denise for this fantastic experience!

All the material and lessons were very insightful with clear content and generous information and all the extra bonus, resources and incentives kept me motivated and eager to finish my assignments. One aspect of this course that I found invaluable was all the feedback we had during these five weeks – helpful, constructive and sincere – from both teachers and fellow students.
An amazing course for anyone that wants to dive deeper into children’s picture books. Thank you for everything, Denise and Sabina!

The class was well structured, I really felt well guided and we could ask anything! Our teachers Denise and Sabina gave constructive and supportive feedback within short time and I especially loved the live sessions were everything was discussed further! I felt this class was so well prepared and really pushing us to achieve the best results! Assignment 3 – Part I http://classes.designgarden.co/assignment-3-part-i-3/ http://classes.designgarden.co/assignment-3-part-i-3/#comments Fri, 01 Jan 2016 20:12:43 +0000 http://classes.designgarden.co/?p=10311 Fairly happy with how these turned out, for my first try, although it’s been tricky getting to grips with some steps in illustrator. Can’t wait to start learning to apply textures and playing with different styles…

This assignment definitely brought to light how rusty I am when it comes to drawing and has definitely inspired me to start practising a lot more. I need to get more creative!
