Fonts Love, June 2011

A list of fonts which I already have and love or I wish to have.

Fidelia Script is my favorite font of the month. It is a disconnected script typeface, incredibly versatile.  I used it for a logo project where I played with the space of letters and added some swashes and the look changed dramatically. I love the ornaments and the extra swashes. It can look elegant and modern, retro and romantic. Good for: wedding invitations, feminine designs, postcard designs

Kewl Script is a very artistic font. It adds fun to projects, having this brush-script, hand-lettered look. Good for: fun invitations, packaging, greeting cards.

Liebe Erika is on  my wish list for some time now. Thin and hand-made look, which will be perfect for some of my web design and print projects. Coupled with Liebe Ornaments it can go far in print designs from tags to whimsical wedding invitations. Good for: fun blog design projects, handmade paper projects

Refresh is an inexpensive yet fun and useful handwritten font. I just found this little gem while searching for yet another “whimsical font”. When clients say “can you give it a bit more whimsical look” (I am still not sure exactly what this means), this is the font to save the day! And it did for one or two projects this month. Good for: whimsical logo design, web design, fun projects.

Fonts Wishlist

My current fonts wishlist:

Nelly Script is on the top of my wishlist for some time now. Designed by Crystal Kluge who is a fantastic lettering artist (check her other work for more beautiful fonts). I like the hand drawn look, the flourishes, romantic feeling of this font. It looks beautiful on wedding invitations and just to please the eye in other paper projects.
Lady Rene – yet another sophisticated hand written font. It can enhance the artistic look of a design and add whimsy. A font which looks so effortless and spontaneous is a product of 15 years of education and practice in typography of its author Laura Varsky.
Memimas – it is supposed to look like a school handwriting but there is much more to this font than that. It is cute in artistic way and is perfect for writing a paragraph of handwritten text that is actually readable.
Canterbury Sans –  font with art deco feel to it which does not look unfashionable to use. The Swash version is precious.
Breathe – luscious font with abundance of flourishes and swashes. I love using fonts with many alternative glyphs in illustrator which allows me to play with how the letters interact in a word.
